Matthew | What Jesus Believed About Your Bible | Week 10

Pastor Joel opens this powerful sermon by asking a fundamental question: "What do you believe about the Bible?" Using Matthew 5:17-20 as his foundation, he examines Jesus's own perspective on Scripture to guide our understanding. Jesus makes it clear that He didn't come to destroy or abolish the Old Testament but to fulfill it - showing that all Scripture finds its ultimate purpose and completion in Him. 

 The sermon reveals four crucial aspects of Jesus's view of Scripture. First, Jesus believed that all Scripture pointed to Him, as evidenced by His words in John 5:39 and Luke 24 where He explained how Moses, the prophets, and Psalms all testified about Him. Second, Jesus taught that Scripture is perfect down to the smallest detail - not even an "iota" or "dot" would pass away until all was accomplished. Third, Jesus expected that every Christian should both obey and teach Scripture, warning of consequences for those who relax even the least commandments. Finally, Jesus prioritized heart transformation over mere external behavior, calling for a righteousness that exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees.

He concludes with a stirring challenge from seminary president B.H. Carroll's deathbed charge to "stand by the old book," emphasizing that if Jesus believed in the complete authority and reliability of Scripture, so should we.
