Matthew | The Difference Between Saying and Following Jesus | Week 24

Drawing from Matthew 8–9, Pastor Jay examines two key passages that divide the ten miracles of Jesus, revealing what it truly costs to follow him. He introduces three types of people: those who make excuses, those who genuinely follow, and those who are too proud to follow at all. The scribe who boldly declared, "I will follow you wherever you go," and the disciple who asked to first bury his father both represent people whose commitment to Jesus crumbled when the real cost became clear. A strong profession of faith, Jay reminds us, does not necessarily mean a strong commitment to Jesus.

He closes by pointing the church to Hebrews 12, calling believers to fix their eyes on Jesus — the author and perfecter of faith — who endured the cross so that we might not grow weary. The reward of following Jesus.
